See the partial eclipse at Hawes National Park Centre

Tuesday 25th October 2022 from 10:00am to 12:00pm

Hawes National Park Centre
Burtersett Road, Hawes, North Yorkshire, DL8 3NT, Yorkshire and The Humber

Join Neill from Go Stargazing and witness one of the rarest events in astronomy – a partial solar eclipse!

On the morning of the 25th of October, the Moon will pass in front of the Sun as viewed from Earth. You can view this event safely using the special solar telescopes provided. Solar glasses will also be available; these allow you to view the event without harming your eyes.

The eclipse starts at approximately 10:04, the maximum eclipse when the Moon will cover most of the Sun is approximately 10:57, and the Moon will leave the Sun’s disc at 11:51 (all times are BST).

If the weather is poor, there will be an indoor presentation and the opportunity to observe the eclipse live on a screen.

Booking advised – email [email protected] or call 01969 666210.

This event takes place as part of the National Parks Dark Skies Fringe Festival 2022.

See more details on our guide to viewing the partial eclipse on the 25th of October.

Please note that this has already taken place on 25/10/2022

Event darkness

The Moon has a big impact on the visibility of celestial bodies in the night sky. Try to plan your stargazing when there is no bright Moon at night as this is when the skies will be at their darkest.

The below chart shows if and when the skies will be at their darkest during this event. Moonlight is shown in light yellow and the Sun's twilight in light blue. Midnight on the date shown is shown as a white line with sunset to the left and sunrise the next morning to the right. A black background with stars shows the best times for stargazing.
