Solar eclipse at Westport Beach with Kintyre and Gigha Night Sky Group
Wednesday 12th August 2026 from 18:00pm to 20:00pm
Westport Beach Car Park
Low Ballevain, Campbeltown, Argyll, PA28 6QD, Scotland
Join the Kintyre and Gigha Night Sky Group at Westport Beach Car Park to witness the spectacular partial solar eclipse on Wednesday 12 August 2026.
With its wide-open western horizon and beautifully dark surroundings, Westport Beach is an ideal location to watch as the Moon gradually covers around 90% of the Sun during the UK’s deepest partial solar eclipse since 1999. Members of the Kintyre and Gigha Night Sky Group will be on hand throughout the event to explain how eclipses occur, answer your questions and help you enjoy this remarkable celestial spectacle safely.
Safe solar viewing equipment, including specially certified eclipse glasses, will be available, allowing you to experience the eclipse in complete safety. Suitable for all ages, this is a wonderful opportunity to share an unforgettable evening under one of Scotland’s finest skies with fellow astronomy enthusiasts and curious first-time observers alike.
