Wynyard Planetarium & Observatory
Thorpe Thewles, Stockton-on-Tees, County Durham, TS21 3JG

The solar eclipse on the 25th of October has a maximum of 20% coverage from the Wynyard Planetarium and Observatory.

The eclipse will start at 10:05 with first contact; it will be at its maximum at 11:03 and end at 11:51.

The planetarium will be open from 09:30 onwards.

This is not a ticketed event, so no need to book; just turn up before it starts; you can also leave at any point.

Our volunteers would like to invite you to this free event and view this partial solar eclipse through the safety of our solar scope, which uses a special hydrogen alpha solar filter.

Please note that this has already taken place on 25/10/2022

Event darkness

The Moon has a big impact on the visibility of celestial bodies in the night sky. Try to plan your stargazing when there is no bright Moon at night as this is when the skies will be at their darkest.

The below chart shows if and when the skies will be at their darkest during this event. Moonlight is shown in light yellow and the Sun's twilight in light blue. Midnight on the date shown is shown as a white line with sunset to the left and sunrise the next morning to the right. A black background with stars shows the best times for stargazing.
