See Jupiter at its best in a decade!
Saturday 3rd January 2026 from 19:30pm to 22:30pm
Sutton Bank Star Hub
Sutton Bank National Park Centre, Thirsk, North Yorkshire, YO7 2EX
The biggest planet of them all is just a few days from its closest approach to the Earth – and looking fantastic!
Jupiter is now high in the sky – where things always look the best! Over recent years it’s been getting higher and higher and now looks amazing. We’ll use powerful telescopes to look at its spectacular banded atmosphere and track down up to four of its moons. Tonight it’s about 400 million miles from the Earth, but with a diameter of nearly 90,000 miles it still looks bright and brilliant.
A real New Year’s treat!
Plus we’ll take you on a journey through the winter sky, with loads of other beguiling targets using our powerful telecopes and binoculars.
This event is being staged in collaboration with our friends at Go Stargazing! Together we are committed to making stargazing accessible and affordable – viewing the heavens shouldn’t cost the earth.
The Hub provides a warm indoor space for colourful presentations with a purpose built viewing area alongside. If it’s cloudy we will still see stars thanks to a brilliant computer based planetarium show.
