Thursday 18th September 2025 from 19:30pm to 22:00pm

Dallington Recreation Ground (The Sugarloaf)
Dallington, Heathfield, East Sussex, TN21 9LL, South East England

See the wonders of the Andromeda Galaxy!

Have you ever wondered why the stars are so important to us and how the increase in lighting is taking away our ability to connect with the landscape in the sky. Then this is the event for you!

From 7.30pm please follow stewards for parking as we need to make sure you are parked in the right direction!

8pm A talk on why we should turn off more lights, followed by Andromeda Galaxy and other constellation you can see at this time of year.

See the stars with the Astronomical Societies until late
Join Dallington Parish and learn about the constellations we love to see; with Doug Edworthy enthusiastic astronomer, Sussex Strollers and Seven Sisters Astronomy Group ; and Samantha Nicholas High Weald Dark Skies coordinator on the importance of reducing light pollution.

There will be soup and refreshments available (we cannot cater for alternative dietary requirements)

Please wear suitable clothing for the weather and bring red torches if you have them. Torches will also be available for the event.

This event takes place as part of the Wild About Dark Skies Festival 2025, organised by the High Weald National Landscape.

Event darkness

The Moon has a big impact on the visibility of celestial bodies in the night sky. Try to plan your stargazing when there is no bright Moon at night as this is when the skies will be at their darkest.

The below chart shows if and when the skies will be at their darkest during this event. Moonlight is shown in light yellow and the Sun's twilight in light blue. Midnight on the date shown is shown as a white line with sunset to the left and sunrise the next morning to the right. A black background with stars shows the best times for stargazing.
