The Vectis Astronomical Society is the principal astronomy group on the Isle of Wight, bringing together people with an interest in the night sky, space science, and observational astronomy. The society welcomes members of all ages and experience levels, offering regular meetings, talks, observing sessions, and outreach activities that help promote astronomy across the island. Through education, practical observing, and community engagement, the society encourages a greater appreciation of the wonders of the universe.

Regular meetings with Vectis Astronomical Society

  • Vectis Astronomical Society monthly meeting

    The fourth Friday of the month from January 2026 to December 2026, except for December

    Newchurch Pavilion, Newchurch, PO36 0LX

    Everyone is invited to join the members of Vectis Astronomical Society for this one of their regular "fourth Friday of every month (except December)" monthly meetings.

    The event includes a presentation, refreshments and a guide to the night sky. If the skies are clear, their nearby observatory will be open for observing and stargazing.

    The Isle of Wight Observatory at Newchurch is open to visitors every Thursday evening, with events run by the friendly and welcoming astronomers from the Vectis Astronomical Society.

    Please get in touch with the Society to confirm your visit and help them manage numbers if you want to attend this event. Admission is free; however, donations are welcome and appreciated.
