The Sunderland Astronomical Society is one of the most active astronomy groups in the North East of England. The group meet regularly at the Washington Wetland Centre near Sunderland which is also home to their Cygnus Observatory. Members of the public are very welcome to their meetings and observing sessions.

  • Cygnus Observatory public open evening

    Thursday, Sunday every week from January 2024 to December 2024

    Cygnus Observatory at Washington Wetland Centre, Washington, NE38 8LE

    Everyone is welcome to this public open evening of the Cygnus Observatory at the Washington Wetland Centre.

    The observatory is usually open every Thursday and Sunday evening to members and non-members from 7 – 9 pm. Please note that these events are subject to volunteer availability and weather conditions.

    Astronomers from the Sunderland Astronomical Society will operate telescopes and answer questions. So if you have a telescope, bring it along for expert advice!

    On the third Sunday of each month, the group meets for a more formal session that includes a presentation by a guest speaker.

    These events are an excellent opportunity to learn more about their Society and possibly join their group.

    As details for these events are subject to change, we recommend contacting the Society if you plan to attend.
