Moffat Astronomy Club is a friendly group of stargazers in southern Scotland, dedicated to sharing the wonders of the night sky. Set under some of the country’s darkest skies, the club brings together beginners and experienced astronomers through talks, workshops, and regular observing sessions.

Their pride and joy is the Moffat Community Observatory, a modern facility open to the public by prior booking. Visitors can look through powerful telescopes, enjoy guided tours of the sky, and experience astronomy in an accessible and inspiring way, helping Moffat shine as a true dark-sky destination.

    The fantastic Moffat Community Observatory is open to pre-booked visits throughout the week (except for Sundays) from October to March.

    Enjoy incredible views of the night skies above internationally-recognised Moffat Dark Sky Town and observe extraordinary objects through the observatory's giant 16" aperture telescope.

    These informal evenings must be booked in advance and are subject to favourable weather conditions and the availability of volunteers. Sessions are free of charge; however, donations are welcome.

  • Moffat Astronomy Club meeting

    The first Tuesday of the month from October 2026 to March 2027

    Proudfoot Institute - Moffat, Moffat, DG10 9DS

    Join the friendly members of the Moffat Astronomy Club for their monthly club meeting held virtually online via Zoom. These sessions take place on the second Tuesday of each month and include an informal presentation or talk on an astronomical topic. The meeting also offers a way to learn more about the club and their lovely nearby observatory.
