The Royal Observatory Edinburgh is a historic scientific institution located on Blackford Hill, overlooking the city of Edinburgh.

Founded in the late 18th century, it has played a key role in astronomical research, timekeeping, and navigation, contributing to both national and international science.

Although most frontline observing is now carried out elsewhere, the site remains an important centre for research, education, and public engagement, housing university astronomy groups and serving the wider community; notably, from November to March it hosts weekly “Astronomy for All” public talks, welcoming audiences of all backgrounds to learn about astronomy and space science.
