The East Oxford Astronomy Club is a newly formed community group (March 2026) inspired by a shared fascination with the night sky and the spirit of exploration embodied by stars such as Betelgeuse.

Founded by local enthusiasts in East Oxford, the club brings together people of all backgrounds who are curious about the universe and eager to learn more about it.

The club’s mission is to make astronomy accessible, engaging, and community-driven. Members gather to explore the nature of celestial objects—how stars, planets, and galaxies form, where they reside in the cosmos, and how they interact across vast distances. Alongside scientific discovery, the group celebrates the history of astronomy by learning about pioneering astronomers from the past and present, as well as the modern space programs, telescopes, and observatories that continue to expand our understanding of the universe.

Beyond science, the East Oxford Astronomy Club also embraces the cultural side of the night sky. Discussions and events highlight sky folklore and ethnoastronomy, examining how different cultures have interpreted and connected with the stars throughout history.

Through talks, stargazing sessions, and community events, the East Oxford Astronomy Club aims to inspire curiosity, foster learning, and build a welcoming local community united by wonder for the cosmos.
