The Cleethorpes and District Astronomical Society meets three times a month during most of the year.

The main meeting takes place on the first Wednesday of each month and has an invited speaker. After these meetings their observatory is open for observing, weather permitting. An exception to this is the month of August when there is a special event for the Perseids meteor shower.

On the Friday of the following week from September to May or June, there is a Beginners' meeting. If the sky is clear, members operate telescopes and introduce attendees to the wonders of the night sky. Otherwise, there are presentations.

On the Wednesday of the week after that, there is an online 'informal' meeting for the discussion of all matters astronomical.

Members of the public are welcome to join Society Members at all meetings based at the observatory.

Full details, including a calendar of events, contacts, location and a page devoted to the Beginners' meetings, can be found on the Society's website.

  • Beginner’s Astronomy at Beacon Hill Observatory

The second Friday of the month from September 2025 to June 2026

Join the friendly astronomers from the Cleethorpes & District Astronomical Society for this beginner's session at their Beacon Hill Observatory.

These sessions occur from September to June on the second or third Friday of each month. They include a presentation on two astronomical topics plus a look at what is visible in the night sky.

If the skies are clear, the session turns into a practical stargazing session observing using telescopes. So take your telescope if you have one for some expert help. Hot drinks and biscuits will also be available.

Each beginner's session is suitable for novices and those with little prior knowledge of astronomy. Children are welcome as long as an adult accompanies them.
