The Bradford Astronomical Society was originally founded in 1975 as an informal group called the Phoenix Astronomical Society. In 1976 it became formal and was renamed the Bradford Astronomical Society.

The group welcomes everyone interested in astronomy, whether they are absolute beginners or are extremely knowledgeable.

As well as regular monthly meetings, the group members organise observing sessions at a favoured dark sky location.
