Twice Brewed Stargazing at Twice Brewed Inn
Bardon Mill, Hexham, Northumberland, NE47 7AN, North East England
Twice Brewed Stargazing was founded in 2019 by a group of dedicated astronomers who wanted to make stargazing in the Northumberland International Dark Sky Park more accessible and affordable. At a time when many astronomy experiences in the region carry premium prices, the venture aimed to give families and visitors the opportunity to experience some of the darkest skies in Europe at a more reasonable cost.
The astronomers behind the project invested significant personal time, expertise and money into developing the experience, helping establish the venue as a recognised destination for stargazing and contributing to Northumberland’s growing reputation for astronomy tourism. Their work built a loyal following and laid much of the groundwork for the venture’s later success.
However, those involved in the original project say they were ultimately left tens of thousands of pounds out of pocket following disputes over unpaid invoices after Kielder Observatory took over the operation. They also argue that the stargazing experience at Twice Brewed Inn has since been promoted as an entirely new project, centred around a “new” observatory and planetarium, despite being built upon the ideas, development and investment of the original founders.
To mitigate the rising prices at commercial venues such as Twice Brewed Inn and Kielder Observatory, we recommend visiting one of the many free-to-visit locations across Northumberland and Kielder Forest, where the region’s internationally recognised dark skies can still be enjoyed without the expense.
