Stargazing with Hull and East Riding Astronomical Society

Stargazing with Hull and East Riding Astronomical Society

Thursday 6th February 2025 from 19:00pm to 21:00pm

Cottingham Civic Hall
Market Green, Cottingham, North Humberside, HU16 5QG

Hull and East Riding Astronomical Society (HERAS) will be hosting a stargazing session which will hopefully include an opportunity to view the Moon and the planets Mars and Jupiter through powerful telescopes.

This event is held in collaboration with members of East Riding Astronomers and Brough Astronomy to support National Astronomy Week.

The stargazing session starts at 19:00 in Grandad’s Park, off South Street, where there will be several telescopes available for you to see some wonders of the night sky (weather permitting of course!).

Then from 19:45 the main event will be open in the Civic Hall just across the road (Finkle Street) where there will be displays of astronomical equipment and images, together with a Q&A session.

Hot drinks and biscuits will be available! No booking is required for this free event!

Please note that this has already taken place on 06/02/2025

Event darkness

The Moon has a big impact on the visibility of celestial bodies in the night sky. Try to plan your stargazing when there is no bright Moon at night as this is when the skies will be at their darkest.

The below chart shows if and when the skies will be at their darkest during this event. Moonlight is shown in light yellow and the Sun's twilight in light blue. Midnight on the date shown is shown as a white line with sunset to the left and sunrise the next morning to the right. A black background with stars shows the best times for stargazing.
