South Downs Dark Skies Festival 2026 - 10th Anniversary
Thursday 12th February 2026 from 18:00pm to Sunday 22nd February 2026 22:00pm
Stargazing festival by South Downs National Park
In 2026, we celebrate 10 years since the South Downs was designated an International Dark Sky Reserve. Join us for the South Downs Dark Skies Festival and experience the beauty and wonder of the night, while discovering how we can protect dark skies for people and wildlife.
Explore the National Park after dark with guided night walks, meet local astronomy groups, and join star parties at Seven Sisters and Queen Elizabeth Country Parks, Amberley Museum, Alice Holt Forest and Brighton seafront. Families can enjoy the new Dark Skies Explorer Trail and listen to the story of the Great Bear.
Learn about nocturnal wildlife and bio-fluorescence, listen to stories of the stars, explore the ‘Embrace the Darkness’ podcast, and visit the new Dark Skies Hub to view prize-winning astrophotography and festival highlights.
Please note: All in-person events are subject to cancellation on the day due to weather conditions. Check the official website for updates.
The majority of these events are family-friendly, too! Please visit the official South Downs Dark Skies Festival 2026 webpage for more details, including resources and activity packs.
Please note that this has already taken place on 12/02/2026
