Perseids Meteor Watch at Wynyard (free!)
Tuesday 12th August 2025 from 19:30pm to 23:30pm
Wynyard Planetarium & Jack Youdale Observatory
Thorpe Thewles, Stockton-on-Tees, County Durham, TS21 3JG
Join the team at Wynyard for the peak of one of the best meteor showers of the year – the Perseids! No booking required!
We’re hosting our annual Perseids Meteor Watch, and you’re invited to join our volunteer team and other members of the public from 7:30pm until late to witness “shooting stars” streak across the night sky.
To enhance your experience, we’ll have our all-sky camera set up outside the Planetarium, streaming live images to the TV screens inside. So if it gets chilly, you can still enjoy the show from the warmth and comfort indoors.
That’s not all – we’ll also be doing some radio astronomy, allowing you to hear the meteors as they pass through the atmosphere!
* Bring a chair, blanket, or mat if you plan to sit outside.
* Dress appropriately for the weather – it may be cold or rainy.
As with all astronomy events, this evening is weather dependent. If skies are cloudy, our volunteer team will still be on hand to deliver presentations and offer guided tours of the Planetarium and Observatory.
We look forward to seeing you for a magical night under the stars!
Please note that this has already taken place on 12/08/2025
