St Mary’s Lighthouse is on a small island north of Whitley Bay. The location is a great place to escape some of the worst light pollution surrounding the area, and the lighthouse makes an interesting foreground object for astrophotos and aurora. In addition, the venue is a favoured location for the Sunderland Astronomical Society to run outreach stargazing events.
