Sutton Bank, Near Thirsk, YO7 2EH
Come to our Sutton Bank National Park centre and enjoy the Dark sky Festival in the dark area of Sutton Bank! We will be your guides along an incredible journey through the constellations and along the Milky Way, showing you how to find all sorts of objects for yourself. There will be powerful telescopes for you to gaze through but we will also help you see the spectacle of skies with just your own eyes. Suitable for adults and accompanied children 10 years and over.
The event will start with an introductory session inside the visitor centre where your host Robert Ince, will introduce our dark sky and explain what you can see if the weather allows us to observe, before going out to experience it for yourselves. If the weather doesn’t allow us to observe outside, the event will go ahead internally, showing fascinating images, films and explanations of astronomy along with demonstration of telescopes, binoculars and meteorites.
Did you know; from towns and cities we see just a handful of stars, but in the North York moors we could count more than 2,000 at any one time!
This event is taking place as part of the National Parks Dark Skies Festival 2019.
- Event includes an astronomy related presentation or talk.
