Stargazing tour by Dabuka For Desert Tourism
This is not your normal tour of Egypt. Combining a relaxing Red Sea escape with some of Upper Egypt’s remarkable ancient sites, the journey offers a very different experience from the traditional Cairo–Luxor–Aswan itinerary.
We’ll stay beside the Red Sea at El Quseir, explore the spectacular temples of Dendera and Abydos, and travel to Asyut for the highlight of the adventure — witnessing the total solar eclipse of 2 August 2027 from a specially prepared desert observation site.
With time to relax before and after the eclipse, this tour offers the perfect combination of a Red Sea holiday, ancient Egypt and one of nature’s most extraordinary events.

Day 1 – Wednesday 28 July 2027
Arrival in Egypt & the Red Sea
Arrive in Egypt and transfer to Mövenpick El Quseir, our home on the beautiful Red Sea coast for the first four nights of the tour. After travelling, the remainder of the day is yours to settle in, relax and enjoy the surroundings.
Day 2 – Thursday 29 July 2027
Red Sea at Your Own Pace
A full day to enjoy the Red Sea at your leisure. Relax beside the pool or on the beach, swim in the warm waters of the Red Sea or simply enjoy a leisurely day at the resort.
Day 3 – Friday 30 July 2027
Relaxation by the Red Sea
Another day at leisure in El Quseir, allowing plenty of time to relax before we begin our journey inland towards Asyut and our eclipse observing location. For those interested in the night sky, the timing of our stay also coincides with activity from the Southern Delta Aquariid and Alpha Capricornid meteor showers.
Day 4 – Saturday 31 July 2027
Final Day on the Coast
Enjoy a final full day beside the Red Sea before our journey into Upper Egypt. This is another opportunity to relax and enjoy the resort, coast and warm waters of the Red Sea before the focus of the tour turns towards the eclipse.
Day 5 – Sunday 1 August 2027
El Quseir – Dendera – Asyut
Today we leave the Red Sea and travel inland towards the Nile Valley. Along the way, we visit Dendera, home to the remarkably well-preserved Temple of Hathor and one of Egypt’s most impressive ancient temple complexes. We then continue north to Asyut, where we check into our hotel the Jewel Assuit and make our final preparations for the following day.
Day 6 – Monday 2 August 2027
Total Solar EclipseThe highlight of our journey and the reason we have come to Egypt. We travel from Asyut to Dabuka’s specially prepared Observation Camp on the desert edge, located almost directly on the centre line of the Moon’s shadow.
The partial eclipse begins at approximately 08:34, with totality beginning at 09:55. Maximum eclipse occurs shortly before 10:00, with totality ending at approximately 10:02. From our observing location, the extraordinary spectacle of totality will last approximately 6 minutes and 23 seconds.
The Observation Camp will be fully equipped for the day, with facilities on site and areas providing shade and respite from the heat. Its desert-edge location also provides an open horizon and an excellent setting from which to experience one of nature’s greatest spectacles. Lunch is included at the eclipse site, allowing us to concentrate entirely on enjoying the experience while Dabuka takes care of the transportation, permits and local logistics.
Afterwards, we return to Asyut with memories of what should be an unforgettable day.
Day 7 – Tuesday 3 August 2027
Asyut at Your Own Pace
After the excitement of eclipse day, today provides an opportunity to slow down, relax and reflect on what we have experienced. There will undoubtedly be plenty of eclipse photographs, stories and experiences to share!
Day 8 – Wednesday 4 August 2027
Abydos – El Quseir
We leave Asyut and begin our journey back towards the Red Sea, stopping along the way to visit the extraordinary ancient site of Abydos. One of ancient Egypt’s most important religious centres, Abydos lies away from the country’s busiest tourist routes and provides another fascinating glimpse into Egypt’s remarkable history. After our visit, we continue east towards El Quseir and return to our Red Sea resort.
Day 9 – Thursday 5 August 2027
Back to the Red Sea
After our journey through Upper Egypt and the excitement of the eclipse, today is all about relaxation. Enjoy the facilities of Mövenpick El Quseir, spend time beside the Red Sea or simply find a shady spot and do very little at all!
Day 10 – Friday 6 August 2027
Your Final Day in El Quseir
Our final full day in Egypt is yours to enjoy at leisure. Swim, relax beside the pool, enjoy the Red Sea or simply spend the day unwinding and reminiscing about an extraordinary journey and more than six minutes spent beneath the shadow of the Moon.
Day 11 – Saturday 7 August 2027
Departure
After breakfast, our tour comes to an end and we begin our journeys home, hopefully relaxed after our time beside the Red Sea and with unforgettable memories of witnessing the total solar eclipse from the Egyptian desert.
