Stargazing tour by Dabuka For Desert Tourism
This is not your normal tour and eclipse viewing in Egypt. It is a journey through three very different landscapes — the Mediterranean coast, Western Desert and Nile Valley — combining fascinating places rarely included in a standard Egypt itinerary with one of nature’s most extraordinary events.
Along the way, we’ll explore Alexandria, remote desert oases and ancient sites before witnessing the total solar eclipse of 2 August 2027 from near the centre line, enjoying an incredible 6 minutes and 23 seconds of totality. Our journey then continues along the Nile towards Cairo and the iconic Pyramids of Giza, completing a truly unforgettable Egyptian adventure.

Day 1 – Tuesday 27 July 2027
Arrival in Alexandria
Arrive in Egypt and begin our adventure in Alexandria, on the Mediterranean coast. After arriving and settling into our accommodation, there will be time to relax ahead of the start of our journey through Egypt.
Day 2 – Wednesday 28 July 2027
Alexandria – City of History
Spend the day exploring Alexandria and discovering the history and character of Egypt’s great Mediterranean city.
Day 3 – Thursday 29 July 2027
Into the Western Desert
We leave northern Egypt behind and travel towards Kharga Oasis, heading deep into Egypt’s Western Desert. The change in landscape marks the beginning of a very different part of our journey.
Day 4 – Friday 30 July 2027
Kharga – Oasis of Antiquity
Explore the archaeology and ancient sites of Kharga Oasis. This remote region contains Roman remains and archaeological sites rarely encountered on conventional tours of Egypt.
Day 5 – Saturday 31 July 2027
The Oasis – Your Day
A more relaxed day in Kharga, with opportunities to enjoy optional desert and oasis experiences or simply take some time to unwind before continuing towards the Nile Valley.
Day 6 – Sunday 1 August 2027
From the Oasis to the Nile
We leave Kharga and travel towards Asyut, where we establish our base ahead of the following day’s total solar eclipse. Excitement will undoubtedly be building as we make our final preparations for one of nature’s greatest spectacles.
Day 7 – Monday 2 August 2027
Total Solar Eclipse – The highlight of the entire journey
The highlight of the tour will be witnessing the total solar eclipse from Dabuka’s specially prepared Observation Camp, located in the Egyptian desert near the centre line of the Moon’s shadow. Full facilities will be provided, including plenty of shade and places to escape the heat and keep cool throughout the day, while the dry desert environment should make the high temperatures more bearable than the more humid conditions experienced in the Nile Valley.
The partial eclipse begins at approximately 08:34, with totality beginning at approximately 09:55. Maximum eclipse occurs shortly before 10:00, followed by the end of totality at approximately 10:02. From our observing location, totality is expected to last an extraordinary 6 minutes 23 seconds. During totality the Sun’s brilliant surface will be completely hidden by the Moon, revealing the ethereal solar corona and transforming the daylight sky into an eerie twilight. Following the eclipse, lunch will be served at the desert site before we return to our accommodation.
Day 8 – Tuesday 3 August 2027
The Morning After
After the excitement of eclipse day, enjoy a more relaxed day and the opportunity to reflect on what we have experienced before continuing our journey north. No doubt there will also be plenty of photographs, stories and eclipse experiences to share!
Day 9 – Wednesday 4 August 2027
Akhenaten’s City – Tell el-Amarna and Minya
Our journey continues north through the Nile Valley with a visit to Tell el-Amarna, the remarkable ancient city associated with Pharaoh Akhenaten. We then continue towards Minya for the next stage of our journey.
Day 10 – Thursday 5 August 2027
Along the Nile to Cairo
Leaving Minya, we continue north through the Nile Valley towards Cairo, watching the landscape change as we approach Egypt’s vast capital city.
Day 11 – Friday 6 August 2027
The Final Day – The Icons of Egypt
Our final full day brings us face-to-face with some of Egypt’s most famous sights. We visit Giza to see the Great Pyramids and the Sphinx before exploring the treasures of the Grand Egyptian Museum. Our Egyptian adventure concludes with an evening beside the Nile – a fitting finale to an extraordinary journey encompassing ancient history, desert landscapes and one of the greatest astronomical events it is possible to witness.
Day 12 – Saturday 7 August 2027
Departure
After breakfast, our tour comes to an end and we begin our journeys home, hopefully with unforgettable memories of Egypt – and of standing beneath the Moon’s shadow during more than six minutes of totality.
