See the Perseids with Baker Street Irregular Astronomers

See the Perseids with Baker Street Irregular Astronomers

Thursday 11th August 2022 from 21:00pm to 23:00pm

Primrose Hill - London
Prince Albert Road, London, London, NW1 4RY

The Baker Street Irregular Astronomers will meet on Thursday 11 August at 9 pm at the gate on Prince Albert Road, next to Ormonde Terrace, before walking to the Irregulars field (marked with the red pin in the photo) to view the Perseid meteor ‘shower’ until the early hours of Friday.

Twilight does not fall until just before 11 pm, lasting until 3 am, so we should have a few hours to bag Perseids!

A bright moon will be prominent and bright, and Saturn, rising at 8.40 pm, will be close to the Moon very low down in the south-east and Jupiter will rise at 10 pm, so please bring a small telescope for observing if you have one.

Everyone is welcome to join the group for this session. If you would like to attend please contact Eric to confirm your attendance.

Please note that this has already taken place on 11/08/2022

Event darkness

The Moon has a big impact on the visibility of celestial bodies in the night sky. Try to plan your stargazing when there is no bright Moon at night as this is when the skies will be at their darkest.

The below chart shows if and when the skies will be at their darkest during this event. Moonlight is shown in light yellow and the Sun's twilight in light blue. Midnight on the date shown is shown as a white line with sunset to the left and sunrise the next morning to the right. A black background with stars shows the best times for stargazing.
