Green Space Dark Skies

Green Space Dark Skies

Saturday 23rd April 2022 from 00:00am to Friday 30th September 2022 00:00am

Stargazing festival by Go Stargazing Administrator

Green Space Dark Skies is a UK wide art project that invites people to experience beautiful landscapes at dusk between April and September 2022.

Everyone can sign up for one of a series of mass gatherings that encourage people to celebrate nature and humankind’s responsibility to protect it. These events are a fantastic means to get away from the bright lights of our towns and cities and experience our natural countryside environment without the impact of excessive light pollution.

The project has the support of National Parks and Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) across the country, and the organisers have received guidance from the International Dark-Sky Association. So it’s perfect for those who do not usually experience the countryside and may not feel welcome there.

The gatherings will be created at dusk by participants, referred to as Lumenators, and guided along pathways or waterways carrying smart lights that will enable digital choreography captured on film while also being sensitive to the nighttime environment. These short films will be available to view online for free soon after each event.

As the overall project encourages people to get away from their computer screens and televisions and experience dark skies, as well as educating people on how to protect them, it has Go Stargazing’s full support, and we’re pleased to feature the events on our website.

Green Space Dark Skies, led by outdoor arts experts Walk the Plank, is commissioned by UNBOXED: Creativity in the UK, the groundbreaking UK-wide celebration of creativity in 2022. Artist visualisation and graphic design by Eduardo Armbrust.
