The year 2019 represents the 50th anniversary of the first Apollo moon landing... Join in the celebrations at one of these special events.
With rolling farmland, hills, valleys and woodlands the Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty makes for a wonderful scenic location. It's remoteness away from light-polluted cities means the skies above are amazingly dark. Views of the Milky Way are fabulous as are views through telescopes on moonless nights. There are a number of publicly accessible Dark Sky Discovery sites. The enthusiastic and friendly astronomers of Shropshire Astronomical Society run regular public stargazing events. Go stargazing in Shropshire Hills AONB and gaze with wonder at the star-filled skies.
The map below shows places to go stargazing in Shropshire Hills AONB including observatories, officially recognised dark sky locations and recommended sites. We very much welcome suggestions if you'd like to contact us.
