Everyone is welcome to join astronomers from West Yorkshire Astronomical Society for this FREE public event in Anglers Country Park to observe the planet Mercury pass in front of the Sun, a fairly rare astronomical event which happens only 13 times each Century!

You will be able to safely observe the event using telescopes with special solar filters. Wakefield based Aurora Planetarium will also be putting on free planetarium shows in the Anglers Discovery Centre.

Event darkness

The Moon has a big impact on the visibility of celestial bodies in the night sky. Try to plan your stargazing when there is no bright Moon at night as this is when the skies will be at their darkest.
