To The Moon and Back Again

To The Moon and Back Again

Tuesday 18th June 2019 from 18:00pm to 20:00pm

Dynamic Earth
Holyrood Road, Edinburgh, EH8 8AS

It’s our nearest celestial neighbour, but only 24 humans have ever made the epic voyage to the Moon and back. With the help of astronomy experts Alastair Bruce, Martin Black, William D. Taylor from the Royal Observatory Edinburgh, celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Moon landings in our ShowDome. A very general guide on the ‘what’, the ‘where’ and the ‘how’ of visiting our nearest neighbour. Some Lego may be involved too… Then sit back, relax with some free popcorn and experience the moon landings in spectacular 360⁰ with our new movie CAPCOM GO!

Event darkness

The Moon has a big impact on the visibility of celestial bodies in the night sky. Try to plan your stargazing when there is no bright Moon at night as this is when the skies will be at their darkest.

The below chart shows if and when the skies will be at their darkest during this event. Moonlight is shown in light yellow and the Sun's twilight in light blue. Midnight on the date shown is shown as a white line with sunset to the left and sunrise the next morning to the right. A black background with stars shows the best times for stargazing.
