The Tan Hill Milky Way Experience is a practical astronomy workshops designed for those who have their own equipment and are looking at developing their star hopping and astrophotography skills and those don’t have the equipment but are looking at getting into imaging and astronomy but have no idea of where to begin.
On the Friday well meet in the pub at 20:00 and discuss scopes, eyepieces, cameras and all things astronomy while we wait for the skies to darken. while enjoying the excellent food on offer at Tan Hill Inn. the evening will be spent getting to grips with the equipment and star hopping using binoculars and telescopes of Yorkshire Astronomy.
On the Saturday, breakfast is served until 12:00 so you can sleep and gather yourselves in your own time. at 14:00. we will begin a workshop on ‘Getting to Know Your Camera’ we have additional DSLR cameras but bring yours. We’ll also look at how to capture the Milky Way. There is an option for an organised hike through the Dales. The nights observations will be aimed at using a developing the skills learnt on imaging and Astrophotograpy and may be we’ll capture the Northern Lights!
In the event of poor weather we’ll have some workshops on how to process images and some of the physics behind the object we’ve seen.
Sunday morning will see us have a good lie in and breakfast in your own time, you’ll also receive a work flow chart for imaging and finding objects in the nights sky and how to process you images. You’ll also receive some raw images so you can practice your developing skills.
