The mysteries of the Multiverse

The mysteries of the Multiverse

Saturday 12th February 2022 from 11:30am to 13:00pm

Kenneth Street, Stornaway, Isle of Lewis, HS1 2DS

We imagine that ours is the only reality. But some scientists and philosophers argue that there are many, perhaps an infinite number, of possible worlds that run parallel to our own.

Astronomer Royal for Scotland Catherine Heymans presents the astronomical observations that lend support to this theory – and then leaves it to you to discuss whether this idea is a credible version of the Universe or a wild fantasy and evidence that mathematics is no guide to reality.

This event takes place as part of the Hebridean Dark Skies Festival 2022.

Please note that this has already taken place on 12/02/2022

Event darkness

The Moon has a big impact on the visibility of celestial bodies in the night sky. Try to plan your stargazing when there is no bright Moon at night as this is when the skies will be at their darkest.

The below chart shows if and when the skies will be at their darkest during this event. Moonlight is shown in light yellow and the Sun's twilight in light blue. Midnight on the date shown is shown as a white line with sunset to the left and sunrise the next morning to the right. A black background with stars shows the best times for stargazing.
