To celebrate the 50th anniversary of Apollo 11 Egglescliffe School are hosting this special event throughout Thursday 18th July 2019. There are to be a series of talks throughout the day to the students, followed by an opportunity for our parents and community to attend some talks on the evening. The event is supported by some of the legends of the Science and Space community:
Professor David Southwood CBE – former chair; UK Space Agency; Director of Science & Robotic Exploration, ESA; various NASA projects such as Cassini; Dept of Physics, Imperial College London.
Dr Suzie Imber – Associate Professor in Space Physics, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Students), University of Leicester; winner of the 2017 BBC Two – Astronauts: Do you have what it takes?
Dr Andy Aldrin – Director of the Aldrin Family Foundation and the ShareSpace Foundation, son of Buzz Aldrin.
James Burke – the BBC’s Apollo Moon Flights chief reporter who had a front row seat for the Apollo 11 mission, and also presented the iconic TV series Tomorrow’s World.
Dr Jim Green – NASA’s Chief Scientist: Former Director of NASA’s Planetary Science; ran successful missions ushering in a golden age of planetary exploration.
