Telescope Workshop and Stargazing at the Poltimore Inn Observatory

Telescope Workshop and Stargazing at the Poltimore Inn Observatory

Saturday 3rd February 2024 from 16:00pm to 20:30pm

The Poltimore Observatory and Inn
East Street, North Molton, Devon, EX36 3HR

Enjoy a family-friendly evening of stargazing at the Poltimore Inn Observatory and experience fabulous nighttime skies using their telescopes.

The event starts with a telescope workshop from 16:00 to 17:30. If you have a telescope of your own and want some expert advice, bring it along!

The stargazing session starts at 18:00 to 22:30 and includes a tour of the observatory and observing using their large-aperture telescopes.

This event is organised in collaboration with Space Detectives, who will give an introductory presentation on astronomy and VR experiences, perfect if the skies are cloudy!

Why not enjoy a meal in the pub and perhaps book to stay over for a stargazing break?

Please note that this has already taken place on 03/02/2024

Event darkness

The Moon has a big impact on the visibility of celestial bodies in the night sky. Try to plan your stargazing when there is no bright Moon at night as this is when the skies will be at their darkest.

The below chart shows if and when the skies will be at their darkest during this event. Moonlight is shown in light yellow and the Sun's twilight in light blue. Midnight on the date shown is shown as a white line with sunset to the left and sunrise the next morning to the right. A black background with stars shows the best times for stargazing.
