SUNday solar observing picnic 2021

SUNday solar observing picnic 2021

Sunday 27th June 2021 from 11:00am to 15:00pm

Hanover Green - Regent's Park
Regent's Park, London, London, NW8 7RG

Members of the public are welcome to join the Baker Street Irregular Astronomers at Hanover Green in Regent’s Park for a picnic and solar observation!

The Irregulars are an amicable group of astronomers who, in normal non-covid times, organise regular monthly stargazing events in the park.

Please note that this event is very much based on covid restrictions in place at the time. If you are planning to attend please read the park’s vistor guidelines, how to get there and parking information.

The nearest park entrance to Hanover Green is Hanover Gate on the Outer Circle opposite the Mosque, with the green on the left-hand side as you pass through the gate.

This event is free to attend and will be primarily a social event; there may be solar telescopes to look through and filtered binoculars. Due to covid, there may be limitations, and all attendees are asked to think carefully before asking to see or allowing others to view the Sun through any equipment.

Please note that this event has already taken place on 27/06/2021

Event darkness

The Moon has a big impact on the visibility of celestial bodies in the night sky. Try to plan your stargazing when there is no bright Moon at night as this is when the skies will be at their darkest.

The below chart shows if and when the skies will be at their darkest during this event. Moonlight is shown in light yellow and the Sun's twilight in light blue. Midnight on the date shown is shown as a white line with sunset to the left and sunrise the next morning to the right. A black background with stars shows the best times for stargazing.
