Stars in Your Skies - From Galactic to Intergalactic

Stars in Your Skies - From Galactic to Intergalactic

Saturday 26th October 2019 from 20:00pm to 22:00pm

Carding Mill Valley
Carding Mill, Church Stretton, SY6

100 years ago, the Milky Way was the only known galaxy. We now know there are hundreds of billions of galaxies, each with hundreds of billions of stars.

Clouds of illuminated gas, star clusters and galaxies have become known as Deep Sky objects. Pete Williamson FRAS will show us how to find them.

Pete will help us to make the best of our Dark Sky Status with hands on observing with hints, tips and explanations.

The evening starts with homemade soup, included in the price. Booking required.

Event darkness

The Moon has a big impact on the visibility of celestial bodies in the night sky. Try to plan your stargazing when there is no bright Moon at night as this is when the skies will be at their darkest.

The below chart shows if and when the skies will be at their darkest during this event. Moonlight is shown in light yellow and the Sun's twilight in light blue. Midnight on the date shown is shown as a white line with sunset to the left and sunrise the next morning to the right. A black background with stars shows the best times for stargazing.
