Stargazing in the Cemetery

Sunday 16th March 2025 from 19:30pm to 21:30pm

The Samuel Worth Chapel
Cemetery Avenue, Sheffield, South Yorkshire, S11 8NT

Join us for Stargazing In The Cemetery where you will learn the basics and get hands on with telescopes. We’ll be hosting this event in the atmospheric Samuel Worth Chapel where we’ll be serving cakes, hot drinks, wine, beer, and mulled cider.

The evening will consist of two talks and an opportunity to look through some of Sheffield Astronomical Society’s amazing telescopes which will be set up on the Cemetery green space (Montague Street).

This will be a chance to chance to look at Jupiter, The Orion Nebula and some star clusters.

This event is for adults and kids (recommended age 8+). All children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.

Please note that this has already taken place on 16/03/2025

Event darkness

The Moon has a big impact on the visibility of celestial bodies in the night sky. Try to plan your stargazing when there is no bright Moon at night as this is when the skies will be at their darkest.

The below chart shows if and when the skies will be at their darkest during this event. Moonlight is shown in light yellow and the Sun's twilight in light blue. Midnight on the date shown is shown as a white line with sunset to the left and sunrise the next morning to the right. A black background with stars shows the best times for stargazing.
