Explore the incredible dark skies above Wittenham Clumps and take in the wonders of the universe, with our stargazing session led by the friendly and enthusiastic team of astronomers from Newbury Astronomical Society.

Using the astronomy society’s telescopes, the team will help you look deep into space to view an array of stunning objects such as star clusters, planets, galaxies, and nebulae.

Learn about asterisms, constellations, how to navigate the night sky and how to identify objects, plus tips and tricks from our experienced astronomers.

This event is ideal for families, beginners, and anyone interested in astronomy. Due to the rural location, Wittenham Clumps is a great location for stargazing, away from the light-pollution of towns and cities.

Event darkness

The Moon has a big impact on the visibility of celestial bodies in the night sky. Try to plan your stargazing when there is no bright Moon at night as this is when the skies will be at their darkest.

The below chart shows if and when the skies will be at their darkest during this event. Moonlight is shown in light yellow and the Sun's twilight in light blue. Midnight on the date shown is shown as a white line with sunset to the left and sunrise the next morning to the right. A black background with stars shows the best times for stargazing.
