Stargazing at Hamsterley Forest

Stargazing at Hamsterley Forest

Tuesday 28th January 2020 from 18:30pm to 20:00pm

Hamsterley Forest Visitor Centre
Hamsterley Forest, Bedburn, County Durham, DL13 3NL

Discover the magic of the night skies with a stargazing experience in Hamsterley Forest, a beautiful dark sky site, where you’ll learn all about the stars.

Update 27/01/20 09:00 unfortunately we have been informed this event has had to be cancelled, sorry folks!

If conditions are clear, we’ll spend most of the time outdoors, where you’ll be provided with a pair of astronomy binoculars, allowing you to really appreciate the awe-inspiring web of constellations above. With our help, you’ll gain a greater appreciation of the night sky, including how to find key objects on your own.

You’ll be given an information sheet and a sky map to take home, showing you details of what’s visible in the night sky. This event is perfect for anyone with a passion for the stargazing, or simply those who enjoy beautiful views in unique surroundings.

This event is featured on Virgin Experience Days. If you know someone who would enjoy such an experience why not give them the gift of a stargazing experience voucher!?

Please note that this event has already taken place on 28/01/2020

Event darkness

The Moon has a big impact on the visibility of celestial bodies in the night sky. Try to plan your stargazing when there is no bright Moon at night as this is when the skies will be at their darkest.

The below chart shows if and when the skies will be at their darkest during this event. Moonlight is shown in light yellow and the Sun's twilight in light blue. Midnight on the date shown is shown as a white line with sunset to the left and sunrise the next morning to the right. A black background with stars shows the best times for stargazing.
