Stargazing at Cosmic Cwtsh

Stargazing at Cosmic Cwtsh

Wednesday 6th April 2022 from 18:30pm to 20:30pm

Penbont House Tearooms, Bed and Breakfast
Penbont House, Elan Valley, LH6 5HS

Join the Elan Valley team for a special evening to explore all things celestial at Penbont House and the Cosmic Cwtsh (formally known as Tynllidiart Stargazing Shelter).

Meet at Penbont House for a light supper, then Pete Williamson (FRAS) will give a sparkling talk on what is in our night sky over the coming season. Then, if the skies are clear, we will head up to Cosmic Cwtsh, a remote observing shelter on Tynllidiart Hill, for a quick rundown on how to spot constellations and impress your friends.

Our dark sky team will be on hand to give you a guided tour of the universe using telescopes and binoculars to reveal lunar features, double stars, star clusters, etc. Please dress warmly as we will be on a hilltop and it will be very cold.

Please bring a torch. Spaces are limited. Cost £20 per person.

Please note that this has already taken place on 06/04/2022

Event darkness

The Moon has a big impact on the visibility of celestial bodies in the night sky. Try to plan your stargazing when there is no bright Moon at night as this is when the skies will be at their darkest.

The below chart shows if and when the skies will be at their darkest during this event. Moonlight is shown in light yellow and the Sun's twilight in light blue. Midnight on the date shown is shown as a white line with sunset to the left and sunrise the next morning to the right. A black background with stars shows the best times for stargazing.
