Springtime Night Sky Observing

Springtime Night Sky Observing

Saturday 18th February 2023 from 19:00pm to 21:00pm

OM Dark Sky Park and Observatory
Davagh Forest, Cookstown, County Tyrone, BT79 8JH

Pop by OM Dark Sky Park and Observatory to see what our astronomers are up to as part of our springtime night sky observation events.

Weather permitting, you’ll see live astronomical imaging via our innovative Meade LX600 and camera system. At the same time, there’ll also be the chance to get hands-on with our range of refractor telescopes and do some eyepiece observing.

If you’d like to bring your observation equipment, feel free – the more, the merrier! Meanwhile, in the event of cloud cover, you can still observe our live feeds from telescopes located in superb observing sites like the Canary Islands and Chile.

This event is part of the NI Science Festival 2023.

Please note that this has already taken place on 18/02/2023

Event darkness

The Moon has a big impact on the visibility of celestial bodies in the night sky. Try to plan your stargazing when there is no bright Moon at night as this is when the skies will be at their darkest.

The below chart shows if and when the skies will be at their darkest during this event. Moonlight is shown in light yellow and the Sun's twilight in light blue. Midnight on the date shown is shown as a white line with sunset to the left and sunrise the next morning to the right. A black background with stars shows the best times for stargazing.
