Spring Galaxy Star Party

Spring Galaxy Star Party

Saturday 14th March 2020 from 19:30pm to 22:00pm

Chambers Farm Wood - Forestry Commission
Education Barn - Chambers Farm Wood, Market Rasen, LN8 5JR

Join experienced astronomer Richard Darn in search of distant galaxies and sparkling star clusters at this spring star party. This is one of the best times of year to observe. The constellation of Leo dominates the southern sky and we’ll take you on a tour of the heavens.

The hot world of Venus is also well placed in the sky, very near the much fainter Uranus! But we’ll start with a colourful beginner’s talk in the education barn to set the scene and answer some of those questions you’ve always wanted to ask. Event goes ahead in all weather. You will even get the chance to learn how to take simple pictures of the night sky.

Please note that this event has already taken place on 14/03/2020

Event darkness

The Moon has a big impact on the visibility of celestial bodies in the night sky. Try to plan your stargazing when there is no bright Moon at night as this is when the skies will be at their darkest.

The below chart shows if and when the skies will be at their darkest during this event. Moonlight is shown in light yellow and the Sun's twilight in light blue. Midnight on the date shown is shown as a white line with sunset to the left and sunrise the next morning to the right. A black background with stars shows the best times for stargazing.
