Space - The Final Frontier - Talk & Stargazing

Space - The Final Frontier - Talk & Stargazing

Thursday 19th September 2019 from 19:30pm to 21:30pm

Bowlees Visitor Centre
Newbiggin, Middleton-in-Teesdale, DL12 0XF

Join experienced astronomer, Richard Darn for an entertaining talk at Bowlees Visitor Centre.

This year is the 50th anniversary of the first humans stepping foot on the moon. But where are we going next? We’ll be pushing the boundaries to trace the next stage of our journey into the cosmos. When will we go to Mars and will we ever be able to visit the stars?

Weather permitting we will also go outside stargazing with telescopes and binoculars and give you a crash course on the Autumn constellations and Milky Way!

Please note that this event has already taken place on 19/09/2019

Event darkness

The Moon has a big impact on the visibility of celestial bodies in the night sky. Try to plan your stargazing when there is no bright Moon at night as this is when the skies will be at their darkest.

The below chart shows if and when the skies will be at their darkest during this event. Moonlight is shown in light yellow and the Sun's twilight in light blue. Midnight on the date shown is shown as a white line with sunset to the left and sunrise the next morning to the right. A black background with stars shows the best times for stargazing.
