Solar System Night at Cannock Chase

Saturday 14th September 2019 from 20:00pm to 22:00pm

Cannock Chase Forest
Birches Valley, Rugeley, WS15 2UQ

Go in search of the giants of the solar system and turning our powerful telescopes on the magnificent rings of Saturn and cloud belts of Jupiter. This is an ideal time for observing these planets as they are well placed in the night-time sky, shining brightly above the southern horizon, and should a wealth of detail (weather permitting). We’ll also discover more about the lovely autumn constellations and enjoy a fascinating beginner-friendly presentation on stargazing with our resident expert.

Event darkness

The Moon has a big impact on the visibility of celestial bodies in the night sky. Try to plan your stargazing when there is no bright Moon at night as this is when the skies will be at their darkest.

The below chart shows if and when the skies will be at their darkest during this event. Moonlight is shown in light yellow and the Sun's twilight in light blue. Midnight on the date shown is shown as a white line with sunset to the left and sunrise the next morning to the right. A black background with stars shows the best times for stargazing.
