Solar SUNday Picnic 2023

Solar SUNday Picnic 2023

Sunday 25th June 2023 from 11:00am to 16:00pm

Regent's Park - Hanover Green
Hanover Terrace, London, London, NW1 4NU, London

Returning to Regent’s Park for the ninth time, the Baker Street Irregular Astronomers shall be observing the Sun with solar scopes (and binoculars) and having a picnic.

The annual solar SUNday picnic is always a social event, Irregulars have the chance to again see and chat to each other over a leisurely lunch on the grass. Many Irregulars bring solar telescopes and white filtered binoculars to the event, happily sharing the solar viewing with others, especially supervised children.

Please join them for a family-friendly fun-day SUN-day! Everyone is welcome!

If you will be attending, please email Eric Emms with the names of your party so he knows that you are coming!

Please note that this has already taken place on 25/06/2023

Event darkness

The Moon has a big impact on the visibility of celestial bodies in the night sky. Try to plan your stargazing when there is no bright Moon at night as this is when the skies will be at their darkest.

The below chart shows if and when the skies will be at their darkest during this event. Moonlight is shown in light yellow and the Sun's twilight in light blue. Midnight on the date shown is shown as a white line with sunset to the left and sunrise the next morning to the right. A black background with stars shows the best times for stargazing.
