Rooftop Astronomy at The Culpeper

Rooftop Astronomy at The Culpeper

Monday 9th December 2019 from 20:00pm to 23:00pm

The Culpeper
40 Commercial Street, London, E1 6LP, London

Enjoy an evening tour of the night sky from the rooftop at The Culpeper. We’ll be stopping by a couple of planets and constellations on the way, all guided by astronomy experts, Dark Sky Wales. Using professional high strength telescopic equipment, this will be a night you won’t forget

Everyone is invited to the rooftop to relax and take in the sights before the night gets properly underway. Shortly after guests will get to enjoy a main course meal and a sweet treat put on by The Culpeper Kitchen.

After dining, Martin will give a brief explanation of the cosmos, after which we’ll begin observing. With the help of a pretty hefty Dobsonian telescope, we’ll take a tour of Saturn and Mars, stopping by a couple of nebulae and star clusters along the way.

Please note that this event has already taken place on 09/12/2019

Event darkness

The Moon has a big impact on the visibility of celestial bodies in the night sky. Try to plan your stargazing when there is no bright Moon at night as this is when the skies will be at their darkest.

The below chart shows if and when the skies will be at their darkest during this event. Moonlight is shown in light yellow and the Sun's twilight in light blue. Midnight on the date shown is shown as a white line with sunset to the left and sunrise the next morning to the right. A black background with stars shows the best times for stargazing.
