Planet Discoveries Inspired by Star Trek

Friday 12th February 2021 from 19:00pm to 20:00pm

Join Professor Carole Haswell, Head of Astronomy at the Open University, for this family friendly talk about finding new planets... Carole's presentation will introduce "exoplanets" and how astronomers can find them despite being so incredibly distant. The focus will be on rocky planets orbiting bright, nearby stars and the likelihood of finding life -- just like Captain Kirk and the starship Enterprise did for all those years! The presentation will be suitable for people aged 10 plus -- a fantastic way to open this year's festival!

This event takes place as part of the National Parks Virtual Dark Skies Festival 2021, an annual celebration of the wonderful dark skies above the Yorkshire Dales and North York Moors International Dark Sky Reserves.

Note that this online presentation can also be viewed LIVE and for FREE via the Go Stargazing public Facebook page (no Facebook login is required).
