Night Sky Photography for Absolute Beginners

Night Sky Photography for Absolute Beginners

Friday 16th February 2024 from 19:00pm to 21:00pm

Penbont House Tearooms, Bed and Breakfast
Penbont House, Elan Valley, LH6 5HS

Have you ever wanted to capture the starry night sky but don’t know where on earth to begin?

Join us at Penbont House where we’ll sample the enthusiasm of night photographer Dafydd Wyn Morgan for a very special evening celebrating the sparkling dark skies of the Cambrian Mountains during Welsh Dark Skies Week 2024.

After a delicious buffet, Dafydd will talk about how you can get started in capturing the wonders of the starry sky through night photography; it is much easier than you think!

Afterwards, you will have the opportunity to sample the spirit of the night with some local products and even take home a special dark sky portrait photograph if skies are clear.

This event is not to be missed.

Booking is essential.

Meet at 7pm at Penbont House

Event darkness

The Moon has a big impact on the visibility of celestial bodies in the night sky. Try to plan your stargazing when there is no bright Moon at night as this is when the skies will be at their darkest.

The below chart shows if and when the skies will be at their darkest during this event. Moonlight is shown in light yellow and the Sun's twilight in light blue. Midnight on the date shown is shown as a white line with sunset to the left and sunrise the next morning to the right. A black background with stars shows the best times for stargazing.
