Night photography and Star gazing at Ashes Farm

Saturday 14th October 2023 from 19:30pm to 21:30pm

Ashes Farm Bed & Breakfast, Holiday Cottage and Lodges
Selside, Settle, North Yorkshire, BD24 0JB

This event is a unique photography and stargazing experience where you will get the chance to learn about night photography.

This event includes the chance to enrol on a free Learn Night Photography course by Gary Lintern beforehand. This is not compulsory to attend the event; however, you’ll appreciate the opportunity to practice your skills.

The Yorkshire Dales National Park has officially been granted the status of an ‘International Dark Sky Reserve’, making this area one of the best places in the world to view the skies above. Stargazing around the new Moon is the best time to stargaze, as the skies are lovely and dark. Once you have enjoyed the dark skies and taken some snaps, the evening will conclude with homemade soup and hot dogs.

Why not make a weekend of it? Book one of our bed & breakfast rooms or self-catering accommodation and receive a 10% discount on a two-night stay.

Please note that this has already taken place on 14/10/2023

Event darkness

The Moon has a big impact on the visibility of celestial bodies in the night sky. Try to plan your stargazing when there is no bright Moon at night as this is when the skies will be at their darkest.

The below chart shows if and when the skies will be at their darkest during this event. Moonlight is shown in light yellow and the Sun's twilight in light blue. Midnight on the date shown is shown as a white line with sunset to the left and sunrise the next morning to the right. A black background with stars shows the best times for stargazing.
