Moonlit Walk for Exmoor

Moonlit Walk for Exmoor

Friday 27th October 2023 from 17:00pm to 22:00pm

Wimbleball Lake
Dluverton, Near Tiverton, Somerset, Devon, TA22, Somerset

Rise to the challenge of walking 9 miles (approx. 4 hrs) around this stunning large lake under a full moon and some of the UK’s darkest skies in the safety of this fully marshalled event. Sign up on your own or with a group of friends or family. The event is also ideal for school or scout groups etc.

Under 16s must be accompanied by an adult. Celebrate completing the walk with complimentary hot drinks next to a campfire and (weather permitting) look up at the moon and starry skies at Wimbleball’s new dark sky discovery hub and viewing platform.
Event Fee £10pp or Family Ticket (2A +3C) £30.

Please raise sponsorship whilst enjoying this outdoor adventure. In that case, we’d be delighted to set up your online fundraising page to support three amazing Exmoor-based charities: Exmoor Search & Rescue, CareMoor for Exmoor and South West Lakes Trust.

The online fundraising page is easy to share with friends and family and makes collecting sponsorship fun and easy: enquiries to [email protected] or 01398 323665.

Everyone who completes the walk will receive a Certificate of Achievement. There will also be a prize for the highest fundraisers.

This event occurs during the <a class=”link” href=”https://gostargazing.co.uk/events/exmoor-dark-skies-festival-2023/”>Exmoor Dark Skies Festival 2023</a>.

Please note that this has already taken place on 27/10/2023

Event darkness

The Moon has a big impact on the visibility of celestial bodies in the night sky. Try to plan your stargazing when there is no bright Moon at night as this is when the skies will be at their darkest.

The below chart shows if and when the skies will be at their darkest during this event. Moonlight is shown in light yellow and the Sun's twilight in light blue. Midnight on the date shown is shown as a white line with sunset to the left and sunrise the next morning to the right. A black background with stars shows the best times for stargazing.
