Magical Moonlight Coastal Walk
Saturday 8th October 2022 from 18:45pm to 21:45pm
Robin Hood's Bay Car Park
Robin Hood's Bay Road, Whitby, North Yorkshire, YO22 4QN
Walking at night here is totally magical. On clear nights, you’ll see huge star-filled skies and the reflection of the moon on the sea. Hear the rhythmical sound of waves on the shore, smell salty sea air and feel the breeze against your skin. It’s refreshing and rejuvenating.
But this event is so much more than a night walk.
Fabian, the walk leader for the evening, will drop in celestial information here and there and talk about deep time. You’ll also find out about the geology of this coastline too, as the area is steeped in ancient rocks and fossils, akin to the dinosaur coast.
But that’s not it. You’ll be guided through a sensory journey that’ll ramp up your feel-good factor. Once ‘in the zone’, gazing at the moon and a star-filled sky dramatically increases your ability to feel awe. An emotion now considered more important than happiness.
Walking at night has many benefits and is an incredibly powerful way of reconnecting you to nature – regardless of whether it’s cloudy or clear. So you’ll feel amazingly refreshed and restored no matter what the skies are doing.
To end the evening, you’ll head to the local pub for a drink or maybe a hot chocolate – so you can chat a little more with your fellow participants.
Walk information
The walk length is about 5.5 miles and will take roughly 3 hours.
Although the route is mainly on footpaths, there are steep hills, steps, a stile, rough ground and lots of mud on these routes too. Mud is unavoidable at this time of the year I’m afraid, but we are in a natural environment! For your comfort, a good level of fitness will be needed for this activity.
