Midweek events at Kielder Observatory offer a good opportunity to visit the facility when the weather is clear as these events no longer get booked up well in advance. This makes it possible to check the weather forecast a few days beforehand. If you want to experience the dark skies make sure you plan your visit around a new moon. Event darkness

The Moon has a big impact on the visibility of celestial bodies in the night sky. Try to plan your stargazing when there is no bright Moon at night as this is when the skies will be at their darkest.
