Join the friendly team of astronomers at the Hampstead Observatory for an evening of stargazing. The Observatory is home to a historic Cooke refracting telescope, which offers incredible views of the Moon, planets and the brighter deep-sky objects, even from its London location!

Entry is free of charge; however, prior registration is required. The facility is run entirely by volunteers who rely on your generous donations to keep the Observatory. Please bring cash if you would like to donate!

Note that events only go ahead if the weather permits observing. You will be notified on the day via email if the ObservatoryObservatoryen, and updates will also be made to their Facebook page.

Event darkness

The Moon has a big impact on the visibility of celestial bodies in the night sky. Try to plan your stargazing when there is no bright Moon at night as this is when the skies will be at their darkest.

The below chart shows if and when the skies will be at their darkest during this event. Moonlight is shown in light yellow and the Sun's twilight in light blue. Midnight on the date shown is shown as a white line with sunset to the left and sunrise the next morning to the right. A black background with stars shows the best times for stargazing.
