Guided Night Walk, Farmhouse Supper and Stargazing

Guided Night Walk, Farmhouse Supper and Stargazing

Sunday 22nd October 2023 from 18:30pm to 21:30pm

The Crown Hotel - Exford
Park Street, Exford, Somerset, TA24 7PP

Join Wild About Exmoor for an evening of walking under the stars.

We meet at our “local”, The Crown, Exford TA24 7PP, so you can enjoy a drink at the bar if you arrive early and then set off for a walk up an old drover’s way onto the moor’s edge.

The walk is approx. 3km up and back, quite rocky terrain with 1 x steep hill. We sit and watch the stars come out whilst soaking up the atmosphere of a quiet Exmoor evening in the wilds. I will point out the visible planets and constellations by a laser before we head down to our smallholding in the valley below.

Enjoy a delicious home-cooked roast dinner made with local produce at our traditional Exmoor farm cottage. Vegan and vegetarian alternatives are available. We talk about the stars and planets and explain the use of apps on phones and iPad.

Learn how to use our telescopes and binoculars to delve into deeper space. £45 per head with complimentary drinks and starry information. We have a planetarium I can play on our widescreen tv if the weather is very cloudy, which shows precisely what is up behind the clouds!

This event occurs during the <a class=”link” href=”https://gostargazing.co.uk/events/exmoor-dark-skies-festival-2023/”>Exmoor Dark Skies Festival 2023</a>.

Please note that this has already taken place on 22/10/2023

Event darkness

The Moon has a big impact on the visibility of celestial bodies in the night sky. Try to plan your stargazing when there is no bright Moon at night as this is when the skies will be at their darkest.

The below chart shows if and when the skies will be at their darkest during this event. Moonlight is shown in light yellow and the Sun's twilight in light blue. Midnight on the date shown is shown as a white line with sunset to the left and sunrise the next morning to the right. A black background with stars shows the best times for stargazing.
