Green Space Dark Skies - Exmoor National Park

Green Space Dark Skies - Exmoor National Park

Saturday 28th May 2022 from 18:00pm to 22:00pm

Dunkery Beacon
Exmoor National Park, North West of Wheddon Cross, Somerset, TA24

Green Space Dark Skies is a UK wide art project that invites people to experience beautiful landscapes at dusk between April and September 2022.

Everyone can sign up for one of a series of mass gatherings that encourage people to celebrate nature and humankind’s responsibility to protect it.

The gatherings will be created at dusk by participants, referred to as Lumenators, and guided along pathways or waterways carrying smart lights that will enable digital choreography captured on film while also being sensitive to the nighttime environment. These short films will be available to view online for free soon after each event.

This gathering will be in Exmoor National Park on 28th May 2022 (TIME TO BE CONFIRMED). Please note that the location will not be Dunkery Beacon, the actual location will only be revealed to participants a few days before the event.

If you are interested in joining in, please book your free place in advance via the Green Space Dark Skies website. Places are limited and no spectators will be allowed.

Event darkness

The Moon has a big impact on the visibility of celestial bodies in the night sky. Try to plan your stargazing when there is no bright Moon at night as this is when the skies will be at their darkest.

The below chart shows if and when the skies will be at their darkest during this event. Moonlight is shown in light yellow and the Sun's twilight in light blue. Midnight on the date shown is shown as a white line with sunset to the left and sunrise the next morning to the right. A black background with stars shows the best times for stargazing.
